Crisp fall morning air – there is nothing finer than watching the leaves change color. Lots to do in the basement this weekend and need to get on the garage soon. That first frost won’t be long away and frankly would rather have two cars in the garage so we only have to scrape one.

Today is an interesting day. My baby is going to get on an airplane by herself for the first time ever. No group, no grandparents, just her flying back to Indiana. I am a little anxious about this. She is a mature capable person who can handle anything, but I guess as a dad you always want to be there to take care of your little ones.

I realized yesterday that I miss Indiana more than I miss Microsoft. That seems sad to me as I spent more time with Microsoft in the past 15 years than Indiana (12 years). But I did grow up in Indiana and like my father I moved many hours away (he grew up in the Wisconsin Dells and moved eventually to Indiana. I was born in Chicago – moved to Indiana and then Cincinnati and Maryland). I guess that rolling stone gene is present in all the Andersen males.

Time to roll.

48 more posts on my other blog to 1000. That puts me right about mid-November for the 2000 + overall and 1000 + posts for each of my blogs. Its almost three years of posting every day. 1800 miles walking at the same time. I love my fitbit – it tells me when I am slacking and reminds me that I need to get out and walk.

I watched modern family last night. There are times when I feel like I live that life, and of course times when I am glad I really don’t live that life. Families are interesting at times. You love them with all your heart but sometimes reality is, they drive you nuts.

The path in life we follow is seldom the one we imagined as a child. I was sure by age 50 I would be a professional writer and yes I have partially achieved that – but I always assumed I would be living by the ocean, on a cliff overlooking the beach with a huge library. Now I have a kindle in my bag that has 300 books but I don’t have the house or the library.

Funny how the rules of time change everything.

Raining in the DC area. It was raining yesterday as well. Had a great conference yesterday – lots of fun and I really enjoyed myself. The drive was kinda fun. Its nice to have drive through history on your way home.

I saw the new Kindle Fire ad today. I had to pre-order one. The connection to amazon movies was worth it for me (plus I have a lot of kindle books). I suspect my lovely wife will do better with the touch screen kindle as well.

On to bigger and better things – and 100’s of slides to finish for an upcoming event today.

The blinking white cursor on a background of blue. I’ve been staring at that cursor this am. You have a good idea. You don’t have a good idea on and off over and over until well there is nothing but staring at the blinking cursor.

A blinking cursor that lies behind a couple of hundred words I have used the delete key to remove over and over again trying to find a voice or for that matter something to say that wasn’t inane or pointless (like this whole last section).

The path to personal freedom lies on the road ahead.

The dreams we pursue are the right dreams.

Today may not be your day but there is always tomorrow.

I sued to go to the store and type on blank pieces of paper left in the demonstration typewriters? Why? The blank page there killed me. It consumed everything in me that it was there. Not that I had something of importance to say – just that it was there and blank staring back at me. A yet to be composed epic work that because it was blank would never be found.

I signed those Sandler Boggs. Little snippets that filled a line, but turned that blank page into something with writing. No more empty page. Just like this blog fills this page, filled by Sandler Boggs with no regard for value or interest, just filled. Empty words poured bending a cruel blinking cursor that cares not for meaning or dreams only that it is ready and waiting for something, anything to fill the screen.

When you are the lead dog, the view always changes.

A few random thoughts:

  • It feels like we are on vacation – I keep thinking we are going home to Indiana. Moving is such a hard thing to handle.
  • Moneyball is about a team without money trying to play baseball, but it is also a slice in time movie about how human beings deal with expectations and failure.
  • I am missing one charger from the move. How is that possible?
  • Moving is painful.
  • Unpacking is more painful.
  • Oh yeah, I hate unpacking.
  • Its fun to live in a place where people are outdoors more than where we were before.
  • I can’t wait to go to Mt. Vernon again, it was a highlight trip for me as  a child.
  • Sometimes I wonder –
  • Found my ZuneHD av doc – now I can play my music at work!

Sundays are fun days. I measure the fun by how many quarters of football is get to watch. Yesterday, 2 minutes of the 3rd quarter of one game so I suspect I was either busy, or it was a good day.

Yesterday was update device day (while working on cleaning the basement). you have to many devices when it takes more than an hour to update everything. Actually it is not possible to have to many gadgets. Its just possible you don’t have enough space and need to expand to a larger gadget hosting facility Smile

We hit the diner for dinner last night. They actually had a pretty decent band playing outside so we enjoyed dinner and music outside. It was a lot of fun, the band played music from the 60’s and 70’s. It really is a wonderful experience to be able to walk to dinner, hear live music and just relax, without having to rush to the car, park and then rush home in the car.

We ended up walking to the Main Street Café for desert. All in all a wonderful restful evening.

Today is get shelves up and see what I can do to bring a little closure to the basement issue.

onward and upward…

If I could, I would.

The phone guy came yesterday (two days early) and we now have working phones (well all but the bedroom and guest room). The funny thing is, all the jacks were wired wrong the same way. how does that happen? normally the same person wired the jacks.

Need to get rolling on the day – I need to get the basement finished.

It is scary but the dog has trained one of the boys (luke) to get up on Saturday and make her pancakes. Fran’s favorite foods in order:

  1. Popcorn
  2. Steak
  3. Pancakes
  4. Ice Cream
  5. Frozen Yogurt
  6. Anything people are eating

So she has trained him to make her pancakes. Sometimes I wonder if maybe being a dog isn’t in the end a more evolved life than humans have. I think popcorn is only number one because well it was Gwen’s favorite thing on earth. She loved catching popcorn in mid air. I miss Gwen. But then I miss a lot of things from the past. I guess that is part of getting older.
