Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night

I had the fortune (or misfortune) of being born 4 days before christmas so sometimes the whirlwind that is this time of year passes me by far to quickly.

This year is also tough, it is the first year without my dad.

Mom was always the one that loved Christmas. Mom and dad got married 4 days before Christmas and frankly mom always made Christmas a huge family event.

This year was no different.

We gathered together and celebrated the day as a family. It was a magical day that was filled with laughter and memories.

My grandfather loved Christmas (as did my Grandmother Johnston). They always had a beautiful (perfect) tree to celebrate. Wisconsin always had snow at Christmas, the ground white with the perfection.

Years ago we would follow the routine of one gift opened Christmas Eve and the rest opened on Christmas day. There are fewer pictures of the older years but since the digital world I’ve taken pictures of videos of the entire process.

As a parent I can say you derive great joy from watching your children open the gifts that have been picked for them.

Missed my first blog in a long while yesterday. It was one of those crazy get up early and get to work for an all day meeting days. I have to get rid of a couple of dead computers today. They have been sitting in the basement for a long time. Then it is off to an event this evening. This time of year is always busy but last week was probably the biggest week I have had in a long time.

The reality of this time of the year is that you run from one party to another. In the end its wonderful to see all the people but you really strecthc yourself very thin.

I am looking forward to a few days off.

Did I take a wrong turn?

Yesterday was a blast. My whole family was in Bloomington including my step-daughter, sisters, brothers-in-law and neices and nephews. We had a great meal and a great time!

Always fun to get a chance to spend the holidays with family.

I suspect that is why there are those family gathering holidays. It makes the rest of the year a little easier to take.

I am using the quickpress application within wordpress today as my windows live writer seems to have decided to have a vacation this week. Anyways – short get back to work blog!!!

How far to be too long?

The lights twinkle and fade

each one a moment in the sun

then fleeting

scared

it hides from the darkness and

winks out and fading

the darkness enfolds one more

tiny shimmering lost light

that no more

beams out

into the infinite vastness of time and space

capturing that movement

and carrying it to the universe.

I watch each light

wondering what message then is lost

it can no more be than it was before

a tiny message

in a light cupped bottle

bobbing on a sea of blackness

until

it winks out

fading to black

and leaving no trace of what was before.
