Yesterday, Puck and I took our normal longer weekend walk. I am talking about it for two reasons. First, I worked very hard to convince Puck that my job was to walk with me. His job isn’t to growl, bark, or menace other dogs—walk with me. He is starting to get that!
The system I set up with Dylan many years ago probably wasn’t to my advantage in the long run. For a long time, I’ve always given Dylan a treat when he brought me things. Normally, it was things Raven had gotten into, and Dylan would bring me the wrapper.
Now, he brings me Puck’s toys and gets a treat. Yesterday, I was sitting in the living room, and Dylan brought me Puck’s Lambchop (Lambchop came from Puck’s mama and is his favorite toy), so I gave him a treat. I then went back to watching the Cubs game.
I noticed Puck picking up his Lambchop and walking out of the room with it. Roughly 10 seconds later, Dylan walked back in with Lambchop. I gave them both a treat again. This time, I moved and turned off the TV. Puck came and took Lambchop from where I had put it on the couch.
He walked to where Dylan was lying down, but I followed him. He dropped Lambchop in front of Dylan and then realized I was there.
I knew the two of them were in cahoots.
