The power of dogs. First, I realize I am in the minority, but dogs deserve more rights than they have. Dogs are considered property in many states and countries. I don’t own my dogs; they are family members. It is important to remember that position in the future You are welcome to disagree.
Why this sudden blog post on Dogs? Well, in over three weeks, we will have had the blessing of 12 years of Dylan living with us. He joined our family at a transition point. We had sold our house in Indiana and were leasing a house in Maryland. But more things were going on.
My wife was finishing up her Master’s Degree. The day after Dylan arrived at our house, our eldest daughter was going off to be a counselor at a camp in Indiana. She would be gone for the rest of the summer, leaving the house for the longest time and distance.
We still had Fran, our other Lab, who was 11 or 12 years old. She was very grouchy and, by the way, did not like Dylan. Dylan joined the family 12 years ago to walk with me. He still does, twice a day (although nowhere near as far as he used to walk).
So, this year’s Memorial Day, we celebrate 12 years of Dylan.
